ABA therapist working with young girl during autism therapy session

Were you wondering?

  • How does ABA help kids with autism?

ABA works by breaking skills down into small, manageable steps and using positive reinforcement to help your child learn. We figure out what motivates your child — whether that's praise or a favorite toy — and use that to encourage progress. Over time, small steps add up to meaningful skills: communication, emotional regulation, daily routines, social interactions. It's not about changing who your child is. It's about giving them tools to navigate their world more comfortably.

  • How long will it take to see change?

Honestly? It depends. Every child is different, and progress isn't usually a straight line. Some families see small wins within the first few weeks — maybe a new word, an easier transition, some calmer moments. But meaningful, lasting change takes time. We're usually talking months, not weeks. We'll set realistic expectations from the start and keep you updated on progress along the way. ABA is a journey, not a quick fix and no one has a crystal ball

  • How often will my child have therapy sessions?

That depends on your child's needs and what your insurance authorizes. Most children receive somewhere between 10 and 25 hours per week. Yes, it sounds like a lot, but sessions are woven into your child's natural routine of play, meals and transitions — not hours of sitting at a table. We'll work with you to build a schedule that fits your family's life.

  • Will my insurance cover ABA?

Most major insurance plans cover ABA therapy for a child diagnosed with autism, but coverage varies. Our office team handles the authorization process and will verify your benefits before we start. We'll tell you exactly what's covered so there are no surprises. If you have questions about your specific plan, reach out. We're happy to help you figure it out.

  • How is Empire ABA different from other ABA companies?

We're neurodiversity-affirming, which means we're not here to make your child "act normal." We focus on skills that actually matter to your family, and we respect who your child is while we do it. Our clinical team brings a unique blend of professional expertise and lived experience with autism, so we understand the work from the inside. We also prioritize clear communication: no jargon, just honest, down-to-earth answers and realistic expectations. And we invest in our staff, because well-supported therapists provide better care.

  • I've heard mixed things about ABA. Should I be worried?

It's a fair question. ABA has evolved significantly over the years. Modern, neurodiversity-affirming ABA focuses on respect and collaboration, not compliance. Our approach focuses on building skills that help your child feel confident and capable. We don't force eye contact, we don't try to get rid of stimming — our goal is to help your child become their best self. If something ever doesn't feel right to you, please bring it up.
